R4 Rear Suspension

Amazing that the Ohlins is only 274 grams heavier. Have to make some alterations for the stroke and the flimsy 10mm eye sizes.

When fitting a shock that was designed for a completely different motorcycle, one needs to consider the difference in geometry.

After being modified to suit the Yamaha, you can see it is now 53 grams lighter than the OEM unit. Most of that saving has to be coming from the lighter spring. Ohlins were kind enough to supply a blue sticker so that it is more in line with its big brother, the R7

The Ohlins shock uses M10 bolts at both ends. For the top mount we replaced the eye with an M12 unit. However, for the clevis end we opted to keep the M10 as there is not a lot of metal surrounding the hole.

The 3TJ uses M12 shoulder bolts for all of the shock and arm points except the front mount on the suspension rocker arm, which is M10, so we just purchased a new front sleeve and trimmed it to match the length of the rear.
