A float bowl seal recess in this condition will damage the new seal.
Clean it!	Before fitting, lubricate the seals with enough silicone or rubber grease to give a glossy finish. If you fit them dry, they will bond to the metal, making it impossible to remove without damage. For o-rings, it also reduces the risk of pinching.
